SPILTAG

HISTORY

Spiltag, specialized in PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) packaging for the HPPC (Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics) sector, started its activities more than 20 years ago from the interest of the family patriarch, Luiz Augusto, in investing in the label market. In 1995, he created Spiltag, a name formed by the family name and the word tag.

However, when he learned about PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) resin in a business fair, Luiz Augusto saw a great opportunity in the carbonated drink and food sector in Brazil.

In 1995, Luiz Augusto Spila bought the first Japanese Nissei machine and a leader in PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) bottle production. And so Spiltag was born, an industry which has valued excellence in controlling its product quality since it was founded.

After Luiz Augusto Spila’s death in 1996, his wife, Darlene de Pádua Melo Spila, took over the company’s management and was advised by a board of directors between 1997-2012. In this period, there was a significant increase in the dollar exchange rate and in the presence of multinational companies in the Brazilian PET market for beverages. Therefore, specialization, training and differentiation were required more and more to survive in this market.

Following its founder innovative example and, again, seizing market opportunities, Spiltag was the first company in Brazil to introduce PET packaging to the HPPC (Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics) sector mainly in small volumes. This way, it satisfied this market demand for packaging whose production was agile and which featured good chemical and mechanical resistance.

In 2012, Luiz Gustavo Spila, the family successor, took over the company’s presidency and adopted a new management policy which could preserve the practices his parents followed, and which could also modernize processes and portfolio so that Spiltag could become a leader in packaging for Personal Care products.

Every year since then, Spiltag has invested heavily in its process continuous improvement by adopting renowned management policies, such as Lean Thinking to keep up with both domestic and international packaging markets, by purchasing more modern equipment, and, of course by training its entire team according to outlined strategies.

LEAN THINKING

What every organization wants is to serve its customers with quality, optimize costs and time.

Lean or Lean Thinking, is the management philosophy that can make this possible. Its premise is to engage each company’s employee in pursuing continuous improvement in their own work process and consequently identify problems and how to solve them.

This methodology proposes a business strategy devised, above all, to customer satisfaction, Spiltag’s major concern.
